John is Eliza's founder, and leads the research and development team at Eliza with a focus on core technology development, linguistics, natural language processing, and intellectual property development.

As a Postdoctoral Fellow at Cal Tech, John was awarded NIH and NIMH grants to investigate the fundamental pattern recognition properties of the human retina using a combination of mathematical and neurophysiological techniques. Insights from this research sparked the beginnings of Eliza's core pattern recognition technology. John's early research involved a unique branch of mathematics for modeling how the human brain processes speech. This research formed the basis of Eliza's high-performance, patented speech recognition technology.

John is an internationally recognized expert on learning algorithms, bioinfomatics, digital signal processing, and speech recognition. John's publications include work in the fields of mathematics, neurophysiology, and cybernetics.

John holds undergraduate degrees in neurobiology and mathematics from Cornell University and a Ph.D. from Cornell in neurobiology and behavior.
